WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT TIBETAN MASTIFFS?
The Tibetan Mastiff is an impressively large dog with noble bearing, noted for extreme intelligence. It is said to have a human-like understanding of people. They are guardian dogs; their instinctive ability makes them an excellent home protector. Tibetan Mastiffs should never be compared with the more easily trainable breeds, because they are intelligent and independent.
Tibetan Mastiffs are one of the oldest and most unique dog breeds. Still somewhat rare in the United States, the Tibetan Mastiff is a member of the AKC Working Group, recognized officially as an AKC breed since 2006. The breed has been recorded in the Foundation Stock Service since 1996.
The Tibetan Mastiff is a powerful and protective guardian who is gentle and affectionate with his family. The TM is patient with children. The breed does not routinely shed but does blow its coat once a year in the warm months.
